Questions for YOU!

What do you think Joan Baez meant when she said in the intro to her song, "I feel I carry the guilt of the United States aggression in Vietnam."?

What jumps out at you in the song?

What do you think of the line, "How many children must we kill, Before we make the waves stand still?"

What is the message of the song?

A review said that Saigon Bride is "one of the prettiest Vietnam War songs ever made."Why do you think they said that? Do you agree with them?

  1. I think that Joan Baez meant that she feels guilty about the violence that came forth from vietnam and that se wanted to get it off her chest before she performed the song.

For the part that jumps out at me the most is the melody of the song and how memorable it is.

I think the line means how much blood will be shed until this war is over.

The message of the song is to stomp the violence in vietnam and in the song the message is conveyed by telling a specific story. In my opinion, specific and personal stories are much more effective than statistics on a graph.

I think that some critics think it's one of the most beautiful vietnam songs because of the melody and memorable a guitar and voice can really be.

  2. I think she meant that she fights against the aggression in Vietnam and she "accepts" the blame for the war.

I love the melody of the song.

In the Vietnam war people would send kids with bombs to kill the enemy so she is wondering how many times they will do that again before the war ends.

The message that I get from the song is that we are killing so many people and when is this going to end?

I think that the melody is what made her get the review.
